Indoor Wooden Dog Kennels for Style and Function
Wooden dog kennels provide a fashionable alternative to keeping a wire cage or plastic crate in an indoor environment. Many pet owners may need to use a dog kennel indoors, even if just on occasion, but they may not like the appearance of a metal or plastic enclosure inside their home. Wood is a functional and attractive solution.
There are several benefits to using a crate indoors. Crate-style enclosures provide a safe and convenient space for a pet to sleep or to be housed when necessary. Some owners prefer to keep their pets inside at most times and need a kennel for daily use.
Others keep their animals outside most of the time in a dog pen or dog kennel. But sometimes these pets might need to be brought inside – for example, during inclement weather or when the animal is ill. Many also include a bed cushion that is fitted to the individual enclosure. Models come in various sizes from small up to extra-large, accommodating most breeds.
Indoor dog kennels come in a variety of decorative designs. Some models look like cages, but with an upscale appearance including attractive touches such as wicker or rattan panels, sides or tops. Many popular houses are fashioned to look like furniture and can be used for more than one purpose. A dog crate end table, for instance, can double as both a kennel and a traditional end table or bedside table, both saving space and joining function with style. Modern designs include Mission or Asian-inspired styles that match many home decors.
A word of caution: if your dog is still a puppy or likes to chew or claw you may want to opt for a wire or plastic crate. Wire cages can be fitted with a dog crate covers. This will dress them up so they match your décor and make them more comfortable for your pooch. If you don’t want a wire cage there are other types of dog kennels to choose from. You may want to look at some plastic dog kennels especially if you don’t think wood is good material for your pooch’s temperament. Plastic cages are very durable and easy to sanitize which is a plus when you are housebreaking a puppy.
Indoor pet houses are widely available online. Some brick-and-mortar dog supplies retailers carry indoor crates, but selection can be limited. Prices range from less than $100 up to several hundred dollars depending on style, manufacturer and size. Whether a crate is needed every day or for occasional use, wooden dog kennels provide a stylish and useful alternative to less attractive metal and plastic crates.
